Rose PetalsRoses are surely some of the most popular flowers, and while bouquets for birthdays, Mother's Day, and Oops, I'm Sorry Day make up a significant part of the industry, rose petals surely run a close second. Over the years clever people have come up with scores of uses for these satiny-smooth rose components, from table decorations to teas to matrimonial accessories. How, for example, could you make rose-scented perfume without tons of petals? Where would potpourri be without rose petals as a prime ingredient? And for heaven's sake, what wedding would be complete without little kids throwing rose petals everywhere?
Pick your petalsRose petals can be had in several forms, and some of them don't even grow on rose bushes. Take silk rose petals, for example. While nothing beats rose petals fresh off the flower, in some ways, silk rose petals are used in situations where you need to store them for long period of time before your occasion. Silk rose petals are cheaper the real thing, so if you ever want to create a "bed of roses" for someone, this might be your choice. However, the biggest drawback is that they're not nearly as realistic (obviously) as the real thing and they will never achieve the tenderness, smell and feel of fresh rose petals. Another alternative to fresh rose petals is to get them freeze-dried. This process works just like freeze-drying food: through a process of freezing and vacuum drying, premium rose petals are captured at the peak of their color and freshness. The process takes about two weeks, and the result is a well shaped petal ready to be used when you're ready to use it. The freeze-dried rose petals don't stain (because there's no water in them), and are great for indoor use. Since they're real, they're better than silk petals in those situations in which your guests are likely to notice. However, freeze dried petals tend to lose their scent, although the appearance is still preserved. If you prefer them to smell like roses, your best bet will be fresh rose petals. The Do-It-Yourself MentalityBy now you might be thinking, "Why should I pay someone to pick rose petals for me? I'll do it myself." The sad truth is, "Do It Yourself" is great for home improvement, but not so hot for rose petals. First of all, picking rose petals isn't something you can just do the night before your event. You can't just pull a rose apart willy-nilly and let the petals fall where they may; you need to allow it to open naturally without passing its peak of freshness, and then careful select the best petals. A single rose may produce as much as 2 cups of petals, which will weigh next to nothing. Now what? You can keep your petals in a cool place, even the refrigerator, but they do tend to wilt quickly, and may not be at their best when you need them. And really, who wants rose petals that smell like egg salad? Rose Petal pushersWhen it comes to premium rose petals, Miss Rose Petals has just what you need.
